Type species. Placothuria ohshimai Liao, 1997 : 225 –227, fig. 135 (also see Liao & Pawson 2001 : 85–87). The genus is monotypic. Diagnosis. Phyllophorid genus with 10 tentacles in single circle, two ventral tentacles smaller. Calcareous ring long, slender with paired, weakly fragmented posterior prolongations of the radial plates, both radial and interradial main elements not fragmented. Body wall with two-pillared tables and thick lens-shaped ossicles. Gonadal tubules, with needle-shaped ossicles. Etymology. The generic name is derived from the Latin Psudo- (false) and Placothuria Pawson & Fell, 1965 .
