Ecology and distribution.
Ophiura carnea
is reported from the Mediterranean Sea and in the Atlantic from
Norway
south to the
Cape Verde
Islands at depths ranging
40 to 2857 m
(
Paterson 1985
;
Tyler & Fenaux, 1994
). In the Gulf of Cadiz it was recorded at a single station located near an active seepage area in the crater of Mercator MV co-occurring with
Amphiura chiajei
,
Amphiura filiformis
and
Amphilepis ingolfiana
.
