The metendosternite and penile flagellum: two unexplored character systems of pleasing fungus beetles (Coleoptera: Erotylidae) Author Pecci-Maddalena, Italo Salvatore De Castro Author Lopes-Andrade, Cristiano Author Skelley, Paul text Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society 2020 2020-12-26 193 953 972 journal article 3741 10.1093/zoolinnean/zlaa152 bdf0ac8c-cdbc-40e4-ad59-f21d59b508c7 0024-4082 5636676 4. Mycotretus apicalis + M. melanophthalmus ( Fig. 1B, L ; character 13:1 and Fig. 5B, C ) ‘flagellum head elongate, angulated anteriorly, and fusing’. The body shape slightly rounded and the penile flagellum with a triangular flagellum head suggest that these species are probably closely related. Mycotretus apicalis and M. melanophthalmus also resemble Mycotretus peruvianus (not included here) in the nearly rounded, convex body and the nearly circular plate-like mentum. According to Skelley & Powell (2018) , these features are present in Mycomystes Gorham and its relationship with those Mycotretus must be checked in future works.
