Etymology
. The genus name is derived from the Latinized Greek word for porcupine (
hystrix
), prefaced by that for dwarf (
nano
). It relates to the long defensive hairs, which—based on postures of dead specimenspresumably trail behind the mite until they are erected upon disturbance.
