Remarks
.
Audinet-Serville (1834)
described the prothorax of his new genera
Xestia
(currently
Coleoxestia
Aurivillius, 1912
) as follows (translated): “Prothorax cylindrical, not tuberculate [laterally], slightly longer than head, very rugose above or transversely wrinkled.”
Fragoso (1993)
did not comment on the possibility of the existence of spiniform tubercle at the sides of the prothorax in
Coleoxestia
. According to
Eya & Chemsak (2005a)
on
Coleoxestia
: “The lateral surface is vaguely tuberculate, rugulose and sparsely to densely punctate.”
Martins & Monné (2005)
defined the sides of prothorax in
Coleoxestia
, in the key, as follows (translated): “prothorax without lateral spine, with rounded gibbosities or unarmed.” Despite these descriptions, the sides of prothorax of some specimens of
C. rufosemivittata
(males and females) have a short, but notably distinct spine (
Figs. 5–6
). The
holotype
deposited at USNM does not show this feature.
The species is currently known only from
Bolivia
. It is recorded for
Peru
(
new country record
).
