Habit and habitat:—Usually scattered to gregarious or caespitose, on the soil of coniferous forests dominated by P. yunnensis , known from the subtropical zone of Yunnan , China ; July to September. Distribution:— CHINA : Yunnan province (Kunming city, Yulong and Yunlong prefecture) at elevations ranging from 1900−2600 m . Material examined:— CHINA . Yunnan province : Kunming City ( AEDZ市 ), Fangwang Tree Farm ( Ẁffi林场 ), 25°38.24'N , 102°52.24'E , elev. 2262 m , 22 September 2011 , Zhu-Liang Yang 5586 (KUN-HKAS 71071, GenBank Acc. No.: nrLSU = MW763011, ITS = MW762886). Comments:—According to the previous description ( He & Yang 2021 ), S. rugosiceps is the type species of the genus Spodocybe which is distinctive by its small basidiomata (pileus 0.5−2 cm diam.), grey-brown to grey-black finely tomentose pileus, elongate basidiospores (5–6 × 3–3.5 μm, Q = 1.55–1.95, Q m = 1.73 ± 0.14), 4-spored basidia, and growing in coniferous forests. The epithet “rugosiceps ” refers to its rugose pileus. Based on our field observation, the rugose pileus might be a valid character at only young period, however, this character is insignificant when mature. This species is known to occur in southwest China .
