Dejean (1829)
clearly described the character combination of the species currently found in modern taxonomic works: dorsum almost black with blue reflect (somewhat iridescent), first antennomere pale and contrasting with the dark following ones, pronotum foveae marked and punctate, sides of pronotum and elytra narrowly depigmented. Keys to identify the species are available from many authors.
This species is known from a vast area, from Central Asia to North Africa and most countries of Europe (
Jaeger & Kataev, 2017
).
