Rio Paraiba do Sul, rio Piabanha, and rio Doce basins, Brazil. Diagnosis. Hypomasticus mormyrops differs from H. thayeri by the moderate lips; mouth ventral; premaxillary and dentary teeth anteriorly oriented when mouth is closed; first teeth (close to the symphysis in the premaxilla and dentary) larger than the others.
