Diagnosis.
This species has exceptional male genitalia (
Figs. 22–25
). The male median lobe is broad laterally and deeply bifid with the lateral rami distinctly asymmetrical with each ramus irregularly curved and twisted (
Figs. 22, 23
). The lateral lobes are bilaterally symmetrical with each lobe bifid (
Figs. 24, 25
). The dorsal ramus is abruptly curved dorsad, and the ventral ramus is evenly curved ventrad (
Fig. 24
). This species is pale with the head and pronotum evenly yellow and the elytron evenly brown. The broad, asymmetrical, highly modified male median lobe is completely unique within the
D. nitida
speciesgroup.
Description. Measurements:
TL =
1.7–1.8 mm
, GW =
1.1–1.2 mm
, HW =
0.6–0.7 mm
, EW =
0.3 mm
, TL/GW = 1.5, HW/EW = 2.1.
Coloration:
Head and pronotum evenly yellow. Elytron evenly brown. Head appendages, legs, and ventral surfaces yellow, darker on metacoxae and abdomen.
Male genitalia:
Male median lobe highly irregular and asymmetrical. In ventral aspect very broad, asymmetrical, deeply bifid with each ramus elongate, irregularly modified (
Figs. 22, 23
). Lateral lobe in lateral aspect broad medially, apically bifid, ventral ramus short, curved ventrad, dorsal ramus short, abruptly curved dorsad (
Fig. 24
); in ventral aspect broad, apical rami short and divergent (
Fig. 25
).
Variation.
Most of the specimens examined are teneral, and there is variation in intensity of the coloration of surfaces.
