Head large. Dorsal side with four distinct pereomeres; pleomeres fused. Seven pereopods on short side of body, 6 or 7 on long side; pereopods 4–6 smaller than others. Pleon with four pairs of well-developed lateral plates and four pairs of uniramous pleopods; uropods uniramous. Males: Pleomeres fused into single large segment, no pleopods or uropods. TYPE SPECIES: Apophrixus philippinensis Nierstrasz and Brender à Brandis, 1931, by monotypy. OTHER SPECIES: Apophrixus constrictus Markham, 1982 .
