Callochiton clausadeae ; Dell’Angelo et al . 2004: 51, pl. 3, figs 1–3 (bibliography and synonymy). Type: MNHN ( holotype + seven paratypes ) , RMNH K 4993 /1 ( paratype ) . Smith, 1903 , Maldive, Felidhoo Atoll, Holotype, BMNH 1903.9.17.25, an intermediate valve detached (not coated). K, dorsal view. L, close-up of K. M, granules of the central area. Scale bars 1 mm: A; 500 µm: C, K; 100 µm: B, E, F, L; 50 µm: D, G, I, M; 10 µm: H, J. Type locality: Madagascar , Tuléar , in caves, outer slope, 4–34 m . Material examined: M13: 30 valves (4 head, 20 intermediate and 6 tail); M19: 2 intermediate valves; M20: 1 intermediate valve; M26: 7 valves (1 head, 4 intermediate and 2 tail); M65: 6 valves (3 intermediate and 3 tail); MLD01A: 6 valves (1 head, 4 intermediate and 1 tail); MLD02A: 12 valves (2 head, 8 intermediate and 2 tail); MLD03A: 4 valves (3 intermediate and 1 tail); MLD04B: 1 intermediate valve; MLD05A: 2 intermediate valves; MLD05B: 3 intermediate valves; LB04: 1 intermediate valve; LB05: 18 valves (2 head, 11 intermediate and 5 tail). Remarks: A detailed description of this species is given by Kaas & Van Belle (1985) . Collected valves agree with those of C. clausadeae , although their preservation is not very good. The only appreciable difference found relates to its slit formula, 12–16/1/12–15 vs. 18/1/12 reported by Kaas & Van Belle (1985) . Also the pits in pleural areas are variable in number, up to 7–8 vs. 4–6 reported by Kaas & Van Belle (1985) ; some are more elongated and the outer ones can reach the anterior margin. This is the first report of this species for the Maldive Islands . Distribution: Callochiton clausadeae is reported from Madagascar , Mauritius , Réunion , and the Maldive Islands .
