Body oblong, slightly convex above, shining, closely covered with short setae throughout. Coloration of head, antennomeres 1–3, pronotum, scutellum and legs pale brown, but mesal part of pronotum and hind legs are infuscate; antennomeres 4–11 and mouthparts brown; elytra black, but anterior margin, surrounding parts of scutellum, sutures, and epipleura yellowish-brown. Each elytron with three markings; anterior markings consisting of five oblong and small spots, situated in basal 1/4; middle markings consisting of five large and ovate spots, situated just behind the middle; posterior markings circular, situated in apex. Head moderate in size, slightly convex in dorsal surface, finely punctate; clypeus long, expanded anterolaterally, gently arcuate in front margin. Eyes moderate in size, prominent; the distance between the eyes ca. 2.1 times as long as the maximum diameter of an eye. Antennae slender, reaching ca. proximal 1/4 of elytra. Pronotum slightly convex above in mesal part of the disk, strongly punctate; antero-lateral angles almost right-angled, projecting anteriorly; front and lateral margins gently arcuate; postero-lateral angles rightangled; posterior margin slightly bisinuate; PW/PL 2.00–2.20 (2.12). Scutellum relatively small, finely punctate, equilateral-triangular. Elytra oblong-oval, widest at the middle, closely punctate; shoulder parts elevated; EL/EW 1.46–1.53 (1.50); EL/PL 4.38–4.83 (4.63); EW/PW 1.43–1.49 (1.45); TL/EW 1.78–1.88 (1.82). Legs long. Hind tibial spurs almost straight, slightly curved laterally in apical parts; dorsal spurs ca. 2.1 times as long as ventral ones, ca. 0.7 times as long as hind tarsomere 1. Sternites III–IV covered sparsely with short setae, but setae on mesal portion of IV closer and longer; sternites V–VII closely covered with long setae regularly; caudal margin of sternite VII shallowly concave. Tergite VII trapezoidal, without apodemes. Tergite VIII moderately sclerotized, trapezoidal, bearing short spines on apical margin, bearing some minute setae in apical portion, with a pair of long and stout apodemes; tergite IX lightly sclerotized, arcuate in apical margin, bearing minute spines in apical part, with a pair of stout apodemes; sternite IX almost membranous, closely bearing short setae at apex. Tegmen well sclerotized, connected with penis; basal part semicircular; parameres long and large, as long as basal part, curved gently laterally, pointed at apices. Penis well sclerotized, simply lobed, as long as parameres, connected with tegmen in apical part, not exceeding basal part of parameres. FIGURE 9. Scirtes teruhisai sp. n. , paratype, male. A) sternites V–VII, B) tergite VIII, C) tergite IX, D) sternite IX, E) tegmen and penis in ventral aspect. Abbreviations: p, penis; t, tegmen. Female. Unknown. Measurements . Male (n = 4): TL 5.25–6.22 (5.79) mm; PW 1.93–2.38 (2.19) mm; PL 0.90–1.10 (1.03) mm; EL 4.35–5.12 (4.76) mm; EW 2.87–3.50 (3.18) mm. Distribution . Borneo Isl. ( Sabah ). Etymology . This species is dedicated to Mr. Teruhisa Ueno. Notes. Similar to Scirtes maxi sp. n. (anterior elytral band consisting of elongated spots). Differs from Scirtes luteomaculatus Pic in having darkened central portion of the pronotum. Certain identification possible on the basis of morphology of aedeagus with narrow and curved parameres.
