Description
FEMALE (
holotype
and
paratypes
). Length 700–925. Head and body brown to dark brown, appendages light brown to brown.
Vertex with fine cellulate sculpture, with short, weak setae; face smooth. Ocelli very small.
Antenna (
Fig. 107
). Scape with weak cross-ridges, about 3 x as long as wide; pedicel slightly longer than F1; F2 the longest funicle segment; F3 shorter than F2, F4 shorter than F3 or F5; F3, F5 and F6 subequal in length; F5 and F6 each with 1 longitudinal sensillum, slightly wider than preceding funicle segments, clava slightly longer than combined length of F5 and F6, with 8 longitudinal sensilla.
Pronotum and mesoscutum with cellulate sculpture; axilla, scutellum and metanotum with much finer, inconspicuous, sculpture. Mesoscutum much wider than long, a little longer than scutellum. Axillar seta weak. Scutellum with row of small frenal foveae. Propodeum with submedial carinae short.
Wings shortened (degree of reduction varies). Forewing (
Fig. 108
) with 3 to 5 rows of setae behind venation; marginal cilia very short, greatly reduced. Hind wing with marginal cilia greatly reduced.
Metasoma longer than mesosoma. Petiole (
Fig. 109
) subquadrate, about as long as wide. Ovipositor about 4/5 length of gaster, barely exserted beyond apex of gaster; ovipositor length: metatibia length 1.5–1.6:1.
Measurements (
holotype
): Mesosoma: 303; mesoscutum: 109; scutellum: 97; petiole: 67; gaster: 479; ovipositor: 409. Antenna: scape (including radicle): 130; pedicel: 54; F1: 46; F2: 82; F3: 62; F4: 52; F5: 61; F6: 61; clava: 135. Forewing: 546/103; longest marginal cilia: 18. Hind wing: 466/15. Legs (given as coxa, femur, tibia, tarsus): fore: 70, 167, 167, 203; middle: 70, 161, 246, 207; hind: 70, 145 (at an angle), 261, 249.
FIGURES 107–110.
Boccacciomymar (Prosto) tak
(paratypes). 107. Antenna (female). 108. Reduced forewing (female). 109. Petiole (female). 110. Forewing (male).
MALE (
paratypes
). Length 660–760. Similar to female except for normal sexually dimorphic features, such as antenna and genitalia. Brachypterous (forewing as in
Fig. 108
) or fully winged; if fully winged, forewing (
Fig. 110
) about 4.5 x as long as wide, with 3 or 4 rows of setae behind venation, longest marginal cilia about 3/4 forewing width, and hind wing about 35 x as long as wide.
Diagnosis
Boccacciomymar (P.) tak
is unique among the known species of the subgenus
B. (
Prosto
)
in having shortened wings in females (and sometimes, but not always, in males) and a rectangular petiole in both sexes.
Etymology The specific name, treated here as a noun in apposition, stands for "so" in Russian.
