Duranta erecta
Linnaeus
,
Species Plantarum
2
: 637. 1753
.
"Habitat in America." RCN: 4626.
Lectotype
(Caro in
Revista
Argentina Agron.
23: 5. 1956): [icon]
"
Duranta inermis
"
in Plumier in Burman, Pl. Amer.: t. 79. 1756.
Current name:
Duranta erecta
L.
(
Verbenaceae
).
Note:
A detailed review is provided by Munir (in
J. Adelaide Bot. Gard.
16: 7. 1995), who argues that an Aubriet tracing from the Codex Boerhaavianus in Groningen should be the
lectotype
rather than the Plumier plate (published by Burman in 1756) designated as the type by Caro. As there is evidence that proof copies of
Burman's
plates were available to Linnaeus before 1753,
Caro's
typification is accepted here.
