The male cerci in this subgenus have 3 branches described as follows: basal half with 1 digitiform process or lobe on dorsal internal margin and 1 obvious lobe on ventral internal margin, apical half cylindrical and incurved, apices subacute. The subgenus includes four species, namely: Phlugiolopsis ( Tribranchis ) tribranchis Bian , Shi & Chang, 2012, Phlugiolopsis ( Tribranchis ) circolobosis Bian , Shi & Chang, 2012, Phlugiolopsis ( Tribranchis ) punctata Wang, Liu & Li, 2012 and Phlugiolopsis ( Tribranchis ) elongata Bian, Shi & Chang, 2013 . Etymology. The subgeneric name ‘ tribranchis ’ is refers to the shape of male cerci.
