Australia , New Caledonia , New Zealand , Hawai’i; individuals identified as this species were observed with an ROV off central and southern California ( Lundsten et al. 2009 , Reichert et al. 2016 ). Depth: 612–2,064 m ( 2,007 –6,770 ft ) (min.: Didier and Séret 2002 ; max. Jacobsen Stout et al. 2016 ). Regarding California fish, “Our specimens cannot yet be confirmed as Hydrolagus trolli until morphometric data and/or DNA samples from preserved specimens have been collected and analyzed” ( Reichert et al. 2016 ).
