Nearly circumpolar ( Mecklenburg et al. 2011 ); no records from East Siberian and western Chukchi Seas; eastern Chukchi and Beaufort Seas eastwards around Arctic to Laptev Sea; isolated population in Sea of Okhotsk ( Sheiko and Mecklenburg 2004 ), and Bering Sea to Aleutian Islands with southernmost record in eastern Pacific Ocean in Bristol Bay, Alaska , and Unalaska Island ( Mecklenburg et al. 2016 ).
