See generic description; only additional details provided here.
Holotype
, length 8.96; maximum width 5.60.
Paratype
(n = 1), length 9.20; maximum width 5.84. Overall coloration lighter anteriorly with mixed light and dark scutellum and hemelytra (
Fig. 1
); darkly impressed frontal sutures meeting bulbous compound eyes midway along mesal margin. Venter with white to pale yellow perimeter band; coxae yellow and suffused with medium brown; trochanters and femora yellow; front tibia and tarsus brown; middle and hind tibiae and tarsi yellow; pretarsi brown. Probasisternum including midventral carina medium brown; prosternellum yellow; propleuron dark brown in mesal half, white in lateral half; meso- and metabasisternum and sternellum brown; abdominal sterna mostly light brown with pale yellow lateral band.

Features of
Hygropetrocoris guyana
n. gen.
(A) left hemelytron showing hair lines and hair patches on corium and embolium (yellow arrows); (B) lateral view showing 70 degree orientation of head with respect to the pronotum and marginal tufts of dark setae; (C) frontal view of head and prothoracic legs; (D) dorsal view of right prothoracic leg. cls = claval suture, ics = intraclaval suture, IV = abdominal segment IV.
Head
. Head length 1.62, maximum width 2.16, synthlipsis at middle 0.72, with four pairs of setal rosettes bordering inner margin of eyes, additional pairs laterad of frontal sutures. Antennal proportions 2:4:5:3, length 0.60.
Thorax
. Pronotum broad, 3.0× as wide as long; length at midline 1.68; maximum width at posterolateral corners 5.04; posterolateral corners broadly rounded, with pronounced bulge above wing base. Scutellum with broad tumescence involving all but anterolateral corners and anterior midline, erect curved black setae in longitudinal row of tufts near lateral margin of tumescence, convoluted pattern of light and dark brown, lateral margins slightly sinuate, 1.8× as wide as long, width 3.12, length 1.72. Hemelytra with complex color pattern on corium, clavus, and embolium of yellow, orange, brown, and black with grayish suffusion and fine black punctures; larger brown and black spot at posterior end of embolium and adjacent corium; membrane entirely black; patterns of erect curved black setae in rows, tufts and singular on hemelytra except membrane; tufts at anterior end of clavus, on embolium and corium. Claval commissure length 0.52. Embolium yellowish anteriorly, becoming brown to black in posteromedial third. Hemelytron length (chord distance) 6.48, width at scutellar apex 2.84. Leg measurements as follows: foreleg, femur 2.12, tibia 1.48, tarsus 0.44; middle leg, femur 2.12, tibia 1.72, tarsomeres 1–3, 0.18, 0.26, 0.32; hind leg, femur 2.72, tibia 2.64, tarsomeres 1–3 0.26, 0.44, 0.52.

Features of
Hygropetrocoris guyana
n. sp.
(A) 6th and 7th abdominal terga; (B) 8th abdominal tergum showing medial black pseudoparameres; (C) pygophore with phallosoma and parameres with (left) and without (right) terga IX and X (proctiger), size bar = 0.5 mm; (D) ventral surface of phallosoma.
Abdomen
. Medial lobes of tergum VII well-developed, rounded, directed caudad (
Fig. 3
A). Mediosternites II– IV with poorly developed ridge on midline; posterior margin of mediosternite III straight, IV concave, V asymmetrically concave on left side, VI–VIII symmetrically concave. Phallosoma elongate, linear, widest at apical ¾, right margin angled to apex in apical 1/4 (
Fig. 3
C), ventrally with two pairs of membranous lobes (
Fig. 3
D); parameres subsymmetrical, elongate, dark brown, inner margins straight, rounded distally; pygophore with elongate setae (
Fig. 3
C).
Female.
Unknown
Diagnostic features
. This is the only known species in the genus. Pseudoparameres are diagnostic for related taxa, and those of
H. guyana
are wide, black, directed posterolaterally, and bluntly produced laterally.
Etymology
. The specific epithet "
guyana
" is in reference to the country in which the specimens were collected.
Repositories
. The
holotype
is deposited in the Center for Biological Diversity, University of
Guyana
, and
paratype
and immatures in the Enns Entomology Museum, University of Missouri.
