Genus
Cheylabis
Trouessart, 1885
Anoplites
Trouessart & Mégnin, 1884b: 156
.
Anoplites
Mégnin & Trouessart, 1884a: 138
.
Cheylabis
Trouessart, 1885c: 84
(replacement name).
Type
species:
Cheylabis latus
Trouessart, 1885c: 85
, designated by
Gaud & Atyeo (1984)
.
Notes
: (1)
Trouessart (1885c)
proposed the name
Cheylabis
as a replacement for
Anoplites
Trouessart & Mégnin, 1884
, on the grounds that it was a junior homonym of
Anoplitis
Kirby, 1837
(in
Richardson 1837: 227
). However,
Anoplites
is not a homonym of
Anoplitis
, so
Cheylabis
was an unnecessary replacement name. The name
Cheylabis
is retained here in the interest of stability.
(2)
Gaud & Atyeo (1996a: 170)
referred to the new generic names proposed in
Mégnin & Trouessart (1884a)
, as
nomina nuda
.
Anoplites
is diagnosed in a key to genera in
Trouessart & Mégnin (1884b: 156)
and
Mégnin & Trouessart (1884a: 138)
so it is not a
nomen nudum
for that reason. It lacks a
type
species, but new genera proposed before 1930 were not required to have a
type
species (ICZN Article 13.3).
