Description (based on non-type specimen from Costa Rica ). 17 mm . Head pollinose orange except for shining brown epicephalon. Frontal vitta broad anteriorly, barely distinguishable from narrow orbital strips, postocellar part of vitta about half as wide, almost parallel-sided, twice as wide as ocellar triangle at narrowest point. One lower fronto-orbital seta. Base of arista yellow and slightly swollen; arista bare. Clypeus shining orange, finely and evenly setulose. FIGURES 17–23. Pseudeurybata compeditus . 17,female, habitus dorsal (oviscape removed); 18, head, dorsal view; 19, female, habitus lateral; 20, head and anterior thorax, lateral view; 21, 22, habitus, female holotype; 23, spermathecae and associated structures, dorsal view. Thorax mostly reddish brown, notum darker than pleuron and with dorsocentral and acrostichal areas almost black, forming a median diffuse longitudinal vitta that extends from scutum to scutellar apex; propleuron with a contrastingly yellow patch on lower half. Postpronotal lobe concolorous with adjacent scutum, posteroventral margin with a dark strip continuous with a carinate anterodorsal edge on the anepisternum. Anepisternum with 6 minute setae (4 mid, 2 posterior), anterior part of katepisternum microsetulose. Foreleg (missing from type ) and midleg black except for a narrow preapical orange femoral band; hindleg similar but reddish brown near base. Wing infuscated, slightly darker along leading edge; halter knob dark. Abdomen with pleuron entirely dirty white to blackish (all types seem discolored). Spermathecal ducts striate, larger duct distinctively shaped with sequential stacked swellings, paired spermathecae broad and dense; single spermatheca relatively large, dense. Male unknown. Type material . Holotype (♀, NHMW , examined and photographed in 2002). MEXICO . "Bilimek leg.". Non-type material examined . COSTA RICA , San Jose, San Carlos, along road near Rios Paraisos ecolodge, 1000m , 15.April .2006, S.A. Marshall debu00260111 (♀, MNCR ). Distribution. Mexico , Costa Rica . Remarks . Pseudeurybata compeditus differs from congeners by the combination of the dark tarsomeres, narrow distal femoral band, and relatively dark epicephalon and scutum. The female genitalia, especially the sculptured paired spermathecal duct, are distinctive but were observed on the Costa Rican specimen only. The type was not dissected for comparison.
