Mesopelagic and bathypelagic; depth: primarily 150 to perhaps 2,000 m ( 495–6,560 ft ) (min.: Sandknop and Watson in Moser 1996 ; max.: Aizawa in Nakabo 2002 ). Previously thought to be the circumglobal species Poromitra megalops (Lütken, 1877) , Kotlyar (2010) referred to eastern and some central Pacific Ocean individuals as P. jucunda , and Indian Ocean and western and some central Pacific Ocean individuals as Poromitra macrophthalma (Gilchrist, 1903) .
