Circumglobal (Pietsch in Smith and Heemstra 1986 ); western Pacific Ocean north to Japan (Nakabo in Nakabo 2002 ) and Russian North Pacific ( Orlov and Tokranov 2019 ); as far north as off British Columbia ( 48°41’N , 126°30’W ) ( Weil et al. 2015 ) and south to northern Chile ( 31°14’S ) ( Kong and Meléndez 1991 ). Depth: about 100–3,603 m ( 328–11,818 ft ) (min.: Bertelsen in Whitehead et al. 1986 ; max.: Porteiro et al. 2017 ). A record of 4,500 m ( 14,760 ft ) ( Froese and Pauly 2019 ) is an error (Theodore Pietsch).
