Benthic; depth: 1–21 m ( 3–69 ft ) (min.: Robertson and Allen 2002 ; max.: Hoese and Reader 2001 ). We follow Sandoval-Huerta et al. (2019) and divide “ Elacatinus puncticulatus ” into three species, one of which lives in the Gulf of California region . A record from Orange County, southern California (Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California ) is in error (Benjamin Frable).
