Epitarsipus rufithorax
was described on the basis of a male and a female from Brickaville [Ampasimanolotra] (
Le Cerf 1922
).
Viette (1982)
designated the male as the
lectotype
and the female as a
paralectotype
. He concluded that the female, which is considerably different, belonged to another species,
M. biedermanni
(see
M. rufescens
below). This conclusion was based on the examination of a short series of both sexes of
E. rufithorax
from “Reg. sud de l'Ile, Bekily” collected in
Sept. 1933
, which clearly showed that there is no relevant dimorphism between the sexes.
