Type species: Dicrania nigra LePeletier & Audinet-Serville, 1828 (subsequent designation by Blanchard 1843 : plate 44). Dicrania castaneipennis species group Figures 1–4 The following five species comprise the D . castaneipennis species group: Dicrania castaneipennis Chevrolat, 1844 , Dicrania chimu , new species , Dicrania ebenina Blanchard, 1850 , D . laevipennis , and Dicrania signaticollis Moser, 1919 . This species group is diagnosed by the following combination of characters ( Figs. 1–4 ): antenna with nine antennomeres and antennal club with three lamellae; pronotum with at least lateroposterior areas without punctures or setae, if surface evenly setose, then setae short and thick; males with elytra puncture usually indistinct or almost so, smooth between punctures, disc usually glabrous, when disc evidently punctate and setose, then setae are thick and homogeneously distributed; female with posterior half of elytral lateral margin not beaded abdomen of female with ventrite VI with a medial tubercle-like process; male mesotarsomere 1 with an inner spatulate tooth; metatarsomere 2 with sparse setae, medial setae shorter than the length of tarsomere.
