Diagnosis and notes.
This species can be distinguished from the Japanese
H. amamioshima
and Taiwanese
H. terminals
by the minute third segment of male labial palpus (
Fig. 5
). The male genitalia slide of the
holotype
of
Mixomelia decipiens
were examined by the first author in 1990. The vesica of aedeagus was not everted, the basal ornamentation was observed outside of the aedeagus, and two larger conical cornuti and a somewhat long plate like sclerite were found. These features are accord well within the variety of the basal ornamentation of the aedeagus vesica described above, therefore, specimens from South
India
(Nilgiri Hills), South
China
,
Vietnam
,
Laos
,
Thailand
and Peninsular
Malaysia
can be identified as
Herminia decipiens
.
Description.
Male (
Figs 15, 17
) & female (
Fig. 16
). Expanse
18–25 mm
; length of forewing
9–13 mm
. Male labial palpus (
Fig. 5
) long, second segment straight, directed forwards, third segment minute, much shorter than that of
H. terminalis
, less than 1/6 of second segment. Male foreleg and wings of both sexes as in
H. amamioshima
and
H. terminalis
.
Male genitalia (
Figs 23
,
29–37
). Similar to those of
H. terminalis
, costal apical process long. Basal ornamentation of everted vesica variable (
Figs 29–37
): larger conical cornuti forming a line or a small sclerotized plate, or a long sclerotized plate. Coecum penis small. Female genitalia (
Figs 42
,
45–50
). Papillae anales and 8th segment as in
H. amamioshima
. Ductus bursae sclerotized, slightly curved, narrowed in ostium, basal portion broad, with a small round protuberance. Size and number of spines in corpus bursae of this complex variable (
Figs 45–50
).
