Euragallia major
var.
breviata
Oman
, 1938
Euragallia major
var.
breviata
Oman
, 1938
, p. 402
, pl. XXXV, fig. 3A.
Remarks
In the absence of males this variation was originally distinguished based on differences in the female genitalia. We have found only one record of
breviata
as a species (
Freytag and Gaiani 2002
) but as the authors did not formally publish the elevation we continue with the variation name until males are found to clarify the situation.
Taxonomic notes
As a result of the consistency of some genital features of
Euragallia
species
, three complexes were established, as follows:
declivata
,
magnicauda
and
major
. The former is based on the shaft of aedeagus bearing one pair of very long and narrow dorsal processes, sometimes even extending posteriorly as far as aedeagal apex. It includes the species
E. declivata
,
E. capixaba
and
E. lata
. The second complex,
magnicauda
, is characterized by the very large segment X with a well-developed pair of processes. It includes
E. magnicauda
,
E. attenuata
,
E. striata
,
E. confibula
,
E. puntarenensis
,
E. magnificentia
and
E. goemansi
sp. nov.
The third group has a much smaller segment X, with or without a pair of processes, and aedeagus not bearing very long dorsal processes. It includes
E. major
,
E. furculata
,
E. nervata
,
E. albopunctata
,
E. machaera
,
E. prion
,
E. calibera
,
E. separabilis
,
E. mejdalanii
sp. nov.
and
E. adelinae
sp. nov.
