Bourgoinrana
Soulier-Perkins
gen. n.
Type
species:
Amberana perinetana
Synave, 1957
.
Amberana
is endemic to
Madagascar
and posses some morphological characters that allow differentiating it from
Literna
classically considered to be close. However the dimple described by Lallemand in 1949 can be observed on all the species except for
A. perinatana
,
A. rubescens
and
A. sandrangatensis
described by Synave in 1957. When looking at the shape of the male genitalia, we have to notice as well that the general shape of the aedeagus and the apex of the parameres of these three species are similar between them but different from all the other species of
Amberana
. In side view, these three species are more dorsoventrally flattened than the species of
Amberana
.
Diagnosis
. Vertex broader than long. From above anterior margin of head regularly curved and postclypeus not protruded beyond it, bearing a large longitudinal furrow. Ocelli closer to each other than to eyes. Pronotum with sinuate posterior margin, wider than long and flattened dorsoventrally in comparison to
Amberana
. Dimple on postclypeus, just below frontal margin absent. Meta tibia bearing one lateral spine. This genus can be distinguished from all other genera by the general shape of the male genitalia. Its aedeagus is generally shaped as a circumvented tube and the anterior margin bears a thumb shaped extension.
Etymology
. This generic name is based on the name of our hemipterist colleague Thierry Bourgoin to which the last 4 letters of the genus
Amberana
were added. The gender of this genus is feminine.
