The Yacare
Caiman
is a large aquatic reptile with elevated eyes and nostrils on top of the head, a laterally flattened tail with a serrated crest, and transverse rows of thick plates on the back. Adults can reach lengths of
2.5–3 m
(mean of total length (TL) = 138.6 ± 55.1;
n
= 43). Such features allowed us to easily identify road-killed caimans (
Fig. 5
). Only
2 specimens
were in suitable conditions for collection (ZUFMS-REP02738 and
REP02739
).
