Cercosaura schreibersii is widespread in the central open vegetation areas of South America, occurring in Brazil , Bolivia , Argentina , Paraguay , and Uruguay ( Fig. 8 ). In Brazil , it is known from the states of Tocantins , Rondônia , Mato Grosso , Mato Grosso do Sul , Goiás , Minas Gerais , São Paulo , Paraná , Santa Catarina , Rio Grande do Sul , and in the Distrito Federal . In Amazonia it occurs in enclaves of open vegetation in southern Rondônia and northwestern Mato Grosso , in Brazil . Cercosaura schreibersii is terrestrial and diurnal, inhabits semideciduous forests, dense cerrado, and open grassfields, where it is mainly found on the ground (Vitt 1991; Vaz-Silva et al. 2007; Marques et al. 2009; Nogueira et al. 2009; Silva et al. 2009; Smith et al. 2011).
