Distribution and habitat.
Neusticurus rudis
is endemic to northern
Amazonia
and widespread in the
Guiana
region, occurring in
Brazil
,
French Guiana
,
Suriname
,
Guyana
, and
Venezuela
(

). In
Brazil
, it is known from the states of
Amapá
,
Pará
, and
Amazonas
.
Neusticurus rudis
is semiaquatic and diurnal, inhabits primary terra firme forest, close to streams or rivers, and swampy areas, in elevations between
0–2,100 m
, where it is found in or close to water, among leaf litter, under logs or on rocky substrate (Hoogmoed 1973; Hoogmoed & Ávila-Pires 1991; McDiarmid & Donnelly 2005; Watling & Ngadino 2007; Barrio-Amorós & Duellman 2009).
