Distribution and habitat.
Potamites juruazensis
is endemic to southwestern
Amazonia
, with its distribution until now restricted to a few localities in
Brazil
and
Peru
, associated with the Juruá, Urucu, and Camisea Rivers (
Fig. 16
). In
Brazil
, it is known from the states of
Amazonas
and
Acre
.
Potamites juruazensis
is terrestrial and diurnal, inhabits the leaf litter of low primary forest, not directly associated with streams (Ávila-Pires & Vitt 1998; Vitt & Ávila-Pires 1998; Icochea
et al.
2001).
