Circumglobal in tropical and warm temperate seas. Pelagic, schooling offshore, 0– 260 m . Marine. Rastrelliger kanagurta (Cuvier, 1816) —Indian mackerel STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on specimens observed and photographed at St. CTR 0 9, CTR 12, CTR 32, and by P. Laboute (St. PR 126). DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Red Sea, East and South Africa , Madagascar and western Mascarenes east to Samoa , north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northwestern Australia and New Caledonia .
