Lamarck did not state on how many specimens his description was based.
Kendrick & Wilson (1975)
discussed at length the status of these two taxa and the confusion arisen in previous literature with
Bothriembryon onslowi
(Cox, 1864)
. They convincingly showed that both
Bulimus inflatus
and
Helix costulatus
share the same
type
material, and the latter name is applicable for this taxon.
