Holotype : NMSA /Olig.00533, * Eastern Cape , 16 km SW of Stutterheim ( 32º32'S : 27º29'E ), alt. approx. 1000 m , in the bank of local stream under rotten bark, 19.i.1990 , JDP & BRS. [re-examined] New material examined: Eastern Cape : 16 km W of Hogsback ( 32º35'S : 26º56'E ), grassland, very dry soil, 22.i.1990 , JDP & BRS, 2 cl + 2 juv, NMSA /Olig.00591 . Comments: P. mirificus shows strong similarity with marenzelleri , but is regarded here as a valid species.A much shorter clitellum, septum 4/5 thickened less than the posterior thickened septa, a pair of very large male funnels commencing in segment 10 and clearly extending to segment 11, distinguish this species from congeners. A review of the type material and study of individuals collected in a new site confirm assignment of this species to the marenzelleri species-group. This species is known from three separated sites, all in Eastern Cape .
