NOV. Loigolactobacillus (Loi.go.lac.to.ba.cil’lus. Gr. masc. n. loigos destruction, ruin, havoc; N.L. masc. n Lactobacillus a bacterial genus; Loigolactobacillus , a lactobacillus with spoilage potential). Cells are are non-motile, non-spore-forming, Grampositive, catalase negative rods, found singly and in pairs. They are homofermentative and produce both D-(−)- and L-(+)-lactic acid isomers. Pentose fermentation is species specific; most of species produce acid from D-mannose and D-mannitol. The mol% G+C content is between 40.6 and 44.3. A phylogenetic tree on the basis of 16S rRNA genes of all species in the genus Loigolactobacillus is provided in Figure S6H . The type species of the genus is L. coryniformis comb. nov. ; Loigolactobacillus was previously referred to as L. coryniformis group.
