Caucasus, Transcaucasia, Asia Minor and Elburs Mts. in Iran , mountains of Central Asia east to Altai . Distribution range of subspecies. the subspecies aeolides occurs in mountains of Central Asia from Altai throughout Tian Shan to Alai, Transalai Mts., and Gissaro-Darvaz mountain systems. First recorded from the Afghani part of the Pamir (Hindukush Mts., Afghanistan ); not known from the Tajiki parts of Badakhshan and Pamir.
