Syntype ♁ from INDONESIA : Java ( 07°19′S , 109°54′E ; 466 m a.s.l. ), 1904, leg. K. Kraepelin , repository ZMH (no register number), examined based on photographs . Diagnosis. Males of C . javanum can be easily distinguished from the males of all the known congeners by a very short embolus (vs. comparatively long in other males) (cf. Fig. 1C–D with Deeleman-Reinhold 1993 : figs 22, 27; Sankaran 2021 : fig. 8B; herein Figs 2D , 3C , 4D ). Females are closely related to the females of C. comulatum , as both share mediolaterally placed copulatory openings and wrinkled spermathecae, but can be separated from the latter species by copulatory openings with longitudinally oriented comma-shaped rims (vs. transversely oriented in C . comulatum ) and anterior spermathecae II without anterolateral extension (vs. present in C . comulatum ) (cf. Deeleman-Reinhold 1993 : fig. 28 with Sankaran 2021 : fig. 6C). Supplementary description. Male ( syntype , Fig. 1A–B ) in alcohol. AER moderately recurved, PER slightly procurved ( Fig. 1B ). Opisthosoma pear-shaped, with almost complete dorsal scutum ( Fig. 1A ). Pedipalp ( Figs 1C–D , 5A ): cymbium retrobasally with a paracymbial spine ( Fig. 1C ). Tegulum pear-shaped, with indistinct apical depression, with less coiled sperm duct with longitudinally oriented loop ( Fig. 1C ). Embolus minute, almost straight, directed at 12-o’clock in ventral view ( Figs 1C–D , 5A ). Remarks. Simon (1905) described this species as a subspecies of C . severum . Deeleman-Reinhold (1993) elevated it to full species status. Distribution. Indonesia (Borneo, Java ), Singapore , Thailand ( Simon 1905 ; Deeleman-Reinhold 2001 ; Raven 2015 ).
