Etymology.
The specific epithet is a noun in apposition and was chosen in reference to the
type
locality and mountain where the
type
series of the species was collected and where it is probably restricted (
Köhler 2002
).
Distribution.
Nototriton saslaya
is currently only known to inhabit two small patches of cloud forest within Saslaya National Park in north-central
Nicaragua
, Cerro Saslaya and Cerro El Torro,
1280 to 1370 m
.a.s.l. (
Köhler 2011
).
