n. syn.
Distribution: Southern
Canada
, eastern and central
U.S.
, and
Mexico
.
Specimens examined: Four hundred and three from 155 collection events; questionable female identifications: 53 from 37 collection events.
Flight period: Approximately 80% (of collection events) from May through August.
Remarks: The intraspecific variation for this species is rather high. Indeed, several specimens have been identified as
M. mellinus
,
M. eleodis
, and
M. carabivorus
by a number of taxonomists.
The
type
material of
M. barri
have pronounced carinae in the depression of the ventral mesosoma in contrast to most specimens of
M. muesebecki
which have an absence or less pronounced carinae in the depression. Similarly, measurements of
M. barri
are in the range
of
M. muesebecki
but are larger than average.
