Type
species (by original designation):
Bulimus similis
Bruguière, 1792
.
Notes.—
Boata (1988
,
1991
) has reconstructed a phylogeny for the genus using karyological data, and molecular (allozymes) and morphological characters. Her work revealed the existence of a cryptic species, for which the name
S. juliana
(
Issel, 1866
)
was available.
Ketmaier et al. (2006)
provided a phylogeny reconstruction for the genus on the basis of DNA sequencing data. In that reconstruction
S. cianensis
takes a basal position among the
Solatopupa
species
, which is not congruent with the findings of
Boata (1988
,
1991
).
Microsatellite markers for all species are available from GenBank, developed by
Matamoro-Vidal, A.
,
Gargominy, O.
, Dominique,
V
. &
Michel, S.
(unpublished). The accession numbers are:
EF450054
–
EF450062
. Six species and one subspecies are currently recognized
.
