Thyreus scutellaris
(Fabricius, 1781)
Distribution:
Central Asia to Europe, west to
Slovenia
(
Lieftinck 1968
).
Notes:
Reported from
Portugal
by Dusmet (1931) and
Diniz (1959)
, these are probably misidentifications given the disjunct distribution—these are the only records reported from Western Europe. Lieftinck studied material from the museum of the University of
Coimbra
where Diniz’s material was stored, so it is highly likely that he would have come across it during his revision but there is no mention of it (misidentified or otherwise) in his 1968 revision, so we take a conservative approach and remove it from the current Portuguese list until this material can be directly inspected.
