Habitat & Ecology: —Growing under the shade of the primary or secondary montane forest, sometimes on the edge of the forest, 300–1600 m elev. Phenology: —Flowering and fruiting from September to April of the next year. Vernacular name: —Xú hưƠng quả lam. Notes: Lasianthus hirsutus is easily recognizable in the field from other Lasianthus in having usually stiff spreading rusty-hirsute branches, oblong to oblong-lanceolate leaves, secondary veins 7–10 on each side of midrib, bracts very large and leaf-like, 2–3.5 cm long, hirsute on both surfaces, flowers white, fruits ovoid to globose, blue when ripe. Lasianthus hirsutus is similar to L. cyanocarpus Jack (1823: 125) which was selected as the type of the genus Lasianthus based on its bracts, but differs from the latter in having larger leaves 12–20 × 4–6 cm (vs. 8–13.5 × 2.5–4.5 cm ), longer petioles 10–15 mm long (vs. 2 mm long), calyx obconical with densely long hirsute (vs. campanulate with tomentose) and pyrenes 5 (vs. 4).
