Type species: Athous holdereri Reitter, 1900 : 159 (Kuku-Nor. Qinghai, China ). Description . Medium, elongate, sub-parallel. Body length 9.5 mm to 11.6 mm in all 11 species. Head with umbilicate punctures; frons depressed in the middle, anterior carination indistinct medially; Antennae reaching or exceeding beyond apex of pronotal hind angles by the 11th antennomeres; 2nd antennomere short and small; 3rd antennomere longer than second, the combined length of 2nd and 3rd segments almost as long as fourth or a little longer; serrated from 3rd or 4th to 10th antennomeres. Pronotum trapezoidal, cylindrical or companiform; hind angles short or elongate, truncate to acute at apex, without carina, with vestige of the basal furrows at posterior margin; pronotal punctures dense, umbilicate. Scutellum slightly elevated longitudinally on disc. Anterior collar of prosternum roundly expanded, bent obliquely; prosternal process simple, narrow. Mesocoxal cavites broadly separated. Legs slender; tarsomeres simple with subtle, fine pubescence. Remarks . This genus comprises a total of 11 species at present. Five species, A. humeralis ( Miwa, 1927 ) , A. kitanoi Ôhira, 1972 , A. obakoensis Kishii, 1976 , A. isamutanakai Kishii, 2004 , and A. kaorutanakai Kishii, 2004 , are prsent in Japan . Six species, A. holdereri ( Ritter, 1900 ) , A. wudanganus Kishii and Jiang, 1995 , A. gansuensis Schimmel and Tarnawski, 2008 , A. jiuzhaigonensis Schimmel and Tarnawski, 2008 , A. muyupingensis Schimmel and Tarnawski, 2008 , and A. shaanxiensis Schimmel and Tarnawski, 2008 , are known from China . A. cambodiensis Fleutiaux, 1918 was replaced to the genus Thacana Fleutiaux, 1936 by Schimmel and Tarnawski (2008) . The closely allied genera are Thacana Fleutiaux, 1936 ( type species: Thacana cambodiensis (Fleutiaux, 1918)) , Chinathous Kishii and Jiang, 1995 ( type species: Chinathous robustus Kishii and Jiang, 1995 ), and Neoathousius Schimmel and Platia, 1991 ( Type species: Neoathousius loebli Schimmel and Platia, 1991 ) including 14 species known form northern India to Pakistan . Distributions. The eastern Palearctic Region and the Indo-Chinese subregion ( Schimmel and Tarnawski 2008 ).
