This introduced Palearctic species is newly recorded in
Nova Scotia
(
Fig. 1
).
Bousquet (1991)
reported it from
New Brunswick
. Species of
Silvanus
are found under the bark of logs and dead trees where they are at least partly fungivorous (
Thomas 1993
). In
Nova Scotia
they have most frequently been found in coniferous forests, under the bark of red spruce (
Picea rubens
Sarg.
) and white pine (
Pinus
strobus L.
) (
Pinaceae
) and on maple (
Acer
sp.).
