Battling the un-dead: the status of the Diptera genus-group names originally proposed in Johann Wilhelm Meigen’s 1800 pamphlet Author Evenhuis, Neal L. Author Pape, Thomas text Zootaxa 2017 4275 1 1 74 journal article 32874 10.11646/zootaxa.4275.1.1 02308cb2-2ac2-407f-aa58-b7f5b657fc44 1175-5326 804234 065D531F-1095-4364-906B-EC55CFF9BFD4 6. Calirrhoe [ Calirrhoe ] Meigen, 1800: 39 . CURRENT STATUS: Unavailable name; work suppressed for the purposes of zoological nomenclature by action of I.C.Z.N. (1963: 339 [Opinion 678]); treated under Prosena Le Peletier & Audinet-Serville, 1828 [ teste Herting & Dely-Draskovits (1993: 367) ]. [Calirrhoa] Bezzi, 1907a: 56 . CURRENT STATUS: Unavailable name; criteria to make the name available not fulfilled in this work. REMARKS: Bezzi (1907a) included this name only in a list of Meigen 1800 names without stating their availability; this is a misspelling of Calirrhoe Meigen, 1800 . [ Callirrhoe ] Hendel, 1908: 68 . CURRENT STATUS: Unavailable name; incorrect original spelling of Calirrhoe Hendel, 1908 [ teste this work]. Calirrhoe Meigen & Hendel in Hendel , 1908 : 66 . ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Stomoxys siberita Fabricius, 1775 . TYPE SPECIES: Stomoxys siberita Fabricius, 1775 , by monotypy. CURRENT STATUS: Junior synonym of Prosena Le Peletier & Audinet-Serville, 1828 . New Synonymy . FAMILY: TACHINIDAE . REMARKS: Calirrhoe was originally proposed by Meigen (1800: 39) without included species and later made unavailable by the suppression of the entire work for the purposes of zoological nomenclature by action of the I.C.Z.N. (1963: 339 [Opinion 678]). Hendel (1908: 60) was the first after Meigen (1800) to give characters to differentiate the taxon (reproducing Meigen’s characters) and to treat Calirrhoe as valid, which makes the name available from that work. Because Hendel repeated Meigen’s characters verbatim, Meigen acquires authorship, but Hendel also gave additional characters in his Anmerkung , which makes Hendel a co-author. Hendel (1908) included one species, Stomoxys siberita Fabricius, 1775 , which is the type species by monotypy. Stomoxys siberita Fabricius, 1775 is currently treated in Prosena Le Peletier & Audinet-Serville, 1828 [ teste Herting & Dely-Draskovits (1993: 367) ], which makes Calirrhoe Meigen & Hendel in Hendel, 1908 a junior synonym of Prosena Le Peletier & Audinet-Serville, 1828 , n. syn . There are two original spellings of this nominal genus in this work: Calirrhoe (page 66) and Callirrhoe (page 68). Acting as First Reviser , we select Calirrhoe as the correct original spelling. OTHER SPELLINGS: Callirhoe : Waterhouse 1912: 44 .
