REMARKS:
Calirrhoe
was originally proposed by
Meigen (1800: 39)
without included species and later made unavailable by the suppression of the entire work for the purposes of zoological nomenclature by action of the I.C.Z.N. (1963: 339 [Opinion 678]).
Hendel (1908: 60)
was the first after
Meigen (1800)
to give characters to differentiate the taxon (reproducing Meigen’s characters) and to treat
Calirrhoe
as valid, which makes the name available from that work. Because Hendel repeated Meigen’s characters verbatim, Meigen acquires authorship, but Hendel also gave additional characters in his
Anmerkung
, which makes Hendel a co-author.
Hendel (1908)
included one species,
Stomoxys siberita
Fabricius, 1775
, which is the
type
species by monotypy.
Stomoxys siberita
Fabricius, 1775
is currently treated in
Prosena
Le Peletier & Audinet-Serville, 1828
[
teste
Herting & Dely-Draskovits (1993: 367)
], which makes
Calirrhoe
Meigen & Hendel
in
Hendel, 1908 a
junior synonym of
Prosena
Le Peletier & Audinet-Serville, 1828
,
n. syn
. There are two original spellings of this nominal genus in this work:
Calirrhoe
(page 66) and
Callirrhoe

First Reviser
, we select
Calirrhoe
as the correct original spelling.
