TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♀♀ , syntypes (one covered with mold) ( MZUF : Box 22): Aspilia Rnd. / alpestris Rnd., Varallo, Alpi / 1167. CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Phaonia angelicae ( Scopoli, 1763 ) ( Pont 1986b: 117 , Gorodkov et al. 1995: 12 ). REMARKS: Rondani (1871a: 318) described Aspilia alpestris from just the female sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens: “ legi specimina aliqua foeminea [I collected some female specimens]”. He later ( Rondani 1877c: 87 ) reported two females : “ Mas ignotus . Faeminas duas alpinas possideo [Male unknown. I have two females from the Alps]”.
