Widely distributed in the eastern half of Northern America, and known from CT, IA, IN, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, ND, NH, NJ, NY, OH, ON, PA, PQ, TX, VA, VT, WI and WV (Bousquet and Larochelle 1993). The disjunct occurrence in
British Columbia
may be the result of one or more separate western accidental introductions, with both coastal and inland localities being represented.
Bembidion lacunarium
has been found among damp moss and leaves in shady places, independent of open water (Darlington 1936). Its wings are constantly reduced to a tiny scale (Lindroth 1963).
