Remarks:
Based on molecular data,
McMahan
et al.
(2021)
suggested the presence of two different lineages under the name
A. transandeanus
in the Pacific coast of Mexico and Central America. The boundary between the two lineages is the northern portion of the Costa Rican Pacific (Guanacaste) coast. Morphological studies are necessary to corroborate this and to properly diagnose both species.
