Distribution
Palaearctic.
Macrocera crassicornis
(Fig. 6) has a rather wide range in central and southern Europe, also known from Near East and North Africa (
Chandler 2004
,
Zaitzev 1994
). Included in the Finnish Red List assessment (
Penttinen et al. 2010
), here formally reported as new for Finland.
Ecology
Reared from soil and dead coniferous wood. Finnish collecting sites are old-growth spruce dominated forests situated in the south boreal vegetation zone.

Threatened fungus gnat species in Finland (VU,
Penttinen et al. 2010
).
